Disney kids' channels to go off air

The media company was unable to reach a deal with payTV operators Sky and Virgin for the carriage of the kids channels.

Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior will be taken off air at the end of September. They will move onto Disney+ from 1st October.

According to Ender Analysis, it is unsurprising that Sky and Virgin have felt able to walk away from negotiations to carry the channels because they have “performed terribly” over the past few years, having been “well outperformed” by comparable kids' channels.

The other brands of Disney including Nat Geo and Fox, will continue to broadcast on linear television.
