A man has died and a woman is critical following A50 collision

A man has died and a woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision this morning on the A50 in Stoke-on-Trent.

The man's vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the eastbound carriageway at around 6:15am between the Baths Road and Trentham Road junctions in Longton.

Both sides of the carriageway are closed. 

The occupants of the second vehicle only received minor injuries and have been taken to hospital as a precaution. 

The Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene and anyone with information about the incident is being urged to call 101 quoting incident number 177 of 15 April.

A police spokesman said: "The vehicle involved in the collision was being pursued by police officers for failing to stop prior to the incident occurring.

"Due to the police involvement before the collision, we have voluntarily referred ourselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
