Armed police deployed to reports of a man with pickaxe

Armed officers have made an arrest, following an incident in Hanley.

They were deployed to a report of a man causing criminal damage to a parking meter and traffic lights on Bethesda Street, received just before 1pm this afternoon (3 October).

He was believed to have been armed with a pickaxe.

Police say the man was then seen to walk off in the direction of Clough Street.

Armed officers detained a man in a building on Broad Street.
