Firefighters have now left the scene of the fire at a supported living complex in Crewe.

The fire broke out at the Beechmere facility on Rolls Avenue around 4.30pm on Thursday (8 August), and 130 residents were evacuated from the building.

At its height, 16 fire engines from across the county and further afield were in attendance to tackle the blaze.

Crews have been working alongside a specialist building team for the damping down process since Saturday, monitoring the situation and dealing with any hotspots.

All roads are now open and all residents living in Royce Close and Railton Avenue are able to return to their homes.

Assistant Chief Officer Gus O’Rourke said: “We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank residents for their patience and co-operation while we were tackling the fire and making the area safe.

“This was a major incident and our thoughts are with the residents of Beechmere at what must be an extremely upsetting time.

“Our community prevention teams are in the area today providing support, information and reassurance.

“Everyone has rallied around to help the local community at this tragic time, and whilst we have now left the scene the investigation into the fire is still very much ongoing.”

Mark Palethorpe, Executive Director of People at Cheshire East Council, said: “The multi-agency and community response to this devastating fire has been incredible. Our focus now is to continue to support residents into longer term or permanent homes as soon as possible.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support and offers of volunteering.

“We had in excess of 400 volunteers at the Crewe Lifestyle Centre over the weekend, helping our communities team to sort the donated items.

“I would also like to thank our staff and members, who continue to work with our partners, to support those affected.”

Residents and relatives with enquiries about social care and accommodation can still call Cheshire East Council’s 24-hour helpline on 0300 123 5025.

Advantage, who own the Beechmere site, have released a statement: "We’re devastated by the effects of the fire at Beechmere and relieved that our residents and staff were all safely evacuated.

"Now that we have secured the safety of our residents, staff and the site, our priority is to care for the needs of our residents and work to action a longer-term plan.

"Since Thursday, we’ve been working closely with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. The site at Beechmere is still in their control whilst they continue to make the site safe and carry out their investigations.

"Over the next few days, our ultimate focus will be to ensure we regularly update our residents and answer as many questions and queries as possible.

"To help with this, there will be onsite presence in a mobile office facility at Beechmere where those with any questions or queries can pop in to speak to a liaison officer. This facility will be available for at least the next 2 weeks open from 10am till 6pm.

"A dedicated hotline has also been set up to assist with any queries which is live from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday – 0330 135 9019.

"We realise the impact this has had and will continue to have on our residents and the local community. Rest assured, we’re doing all we can to find longer term solutions for residents and are in contact with partner agencies to assist us with this.

"We will also ensure that each resident has a dedicated liaison officer to meet with and be a main point of contact outside of general queries. This will be communicated on an individual basis over the next 24/48 hours.

"We’re grateful and humbled for the tremendous amount of support we’ve seen from the local community, Cheshire East Council, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and other landlords to name but a few.

"We will continue to update as and where we can using our social media platforms and website pages.

"Thank you for your continued support at what is a devastating time for so many."
