A man's recovering after being sprayed with lighter fuel in Newcastle, by a man who then tried to set him on fire.
Police say they were called out at around 12.20pm yesterday (12 February) to reports that a man was spraying lighter fuel over vehicles on Reedmace Walk and trying to set them alight.
When the offender was challenged by a member of the public, he doused him with fuel and attempted to set him on fire.
Shortly after, the offender then tried to steal a Mercedes on Gallingale Walk, and assaulted the 42-year-old female driver of the vehicle.
A 37-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. He was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle from earlier in the day.
West Midlands Ambulance and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident.
The victim of the lighter fuel attack, a 54-year-old man from Newcastle was treated at the scene.
