Man detained suspected armed robber

Police have praised the bravery of a man who stepped in after two men armed with a knife threatened workers at a Stoke-on-Trent shop.

Police say two offenders wearing balaclavas, and armed with a knife, had entered the store on Whieldon Road in Fenton at around 8.50pm last night (15 May), and threatened a member of staff.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "A member of the public bravely intervened, detaining one of the men until officers arrived.

"Fortunately no one was injured, but staff and customers were understandably left shaken."

An 18-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested at the scene on suspicion of armed robbery. A knife was recovered nearby. 

A short while later, a vehicle failed to stop for officers on Sutherland Road, and after a brief pursuit, the driver fled but was quickly caught up with by officers. 

A 28-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and armed robbery.
