North Staffs Mind is launching a new free Adult Mental Health Support Line, as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The theme of this year’s week is kindness, celebrating the thousands of acts of good will that are so important to our mental health - as well as encouraging everyone to be kind to themselves and think about self care.

The phone line will be open every Friday between 11am and 2pm to offer advice, guidance, and signposting to people in the local community during this challenging time.

It will run alongside the charity's Young Person and Parent Support lines that also run during the week, as well as the 'Speak Up Space' instant messaging service for young people.

During lock-down, the ‘Be Excellent to Each other’ support groups for men over 18 are being held via Zoom.

Kate Boundy, Interim Chief Executive at North Staffs Mind, said: "We continue to develop the services we offer during these challenging times.  Our teams have responded magnificently to move from face to face services to remote delivery via telephone, webchat, and online video within a really short timescale.

"The pressure on our mental health has never been greater, and we are working hard to ensure that we continue to provide a range of services that can help as many people as possible during lockdown."

Emma Marks, Time to Change Community Equalities Coordinator for West Midlands said: “Mental health problems can affect anyone, any day of the year, but this week is a great opportunity to get as many people as possible thinking and talking about mental health.

"We would encourage the people of North Staffs AND everyone to get involved and check out the work that North Staffs do and their current fundraising events, and help the charity continue with the vital work they do to support their local community.”
