Police charge man following Hanley pickaxe incident

A man has been charged by police following an incident involving a pickaxe in Hanley last Thursday.

The man has been charged with criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon in connection with an incident in Hanley on Thursday (3 October) where a man was seen damaging a parking meter.

A 37-year-old man, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon.

Armed officers had been deployed to a report of a man causing criminal damage to a parking meter and traffic lights on Bethesda Street during the incident last week.

Police eventually detained a man in a building on Broad Street.
