Rabbits dumped in a Staffordshire garden

The RSPCA are appealing for information to find those responsible for dumping two rabbits in the back garden of a house in North Staffordshire.

The male and female lop eared rabbits were found on the driveway of a house in Swan Bank, Talke, by the homeowner on Friday afternoon (5 October), who then alerted the animal welfare charity.

He reported seeing a young male and female, possibly teenagers, hanging around his gate at about 2pm and when he confronted them they said they were walking the rabbits.

Moments later they had fled and the rabbits were left on the caller’s driveway and he managed to coax them into the safety of his garden.

Inspector Caren Goodman-James was called to the scene and managed to catch the rabbits who both appeared to be in good condition.

They are now in the care of the RSPCA where the male has been named Bobby and the female is called Autumn and they will be available for re-homing soon.

Caren is now appealing for information to find those responsible for dumping the rabbits.

She said: “It is appalling how someone would just think to dump their pets like rubbish with no thought for their welfare

“It seems to me that someone took on these pets and then decided they couldn’t cope with looking after them so just discarded them..

“I am appealing for anyone who knows who these rabbits belonged to or who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch. “

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
