A 16-year-old boy's been injured, following a garage fire in Newcastle.
Crews from Newcastle and Hanley were called to St Vincent Place in Knutton at 5.35pm yesterday afternoon (20 January) to reports of a fire in wooden garage.
The firefighters found the building well alight and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, which left a 16-year-old boy with minor burns to his hands.
An investigation has found the incident was caused by accelerants igniting within the shed.
Station Manager Ed Case said: “Please ensure any accelerants or other flammable liquids are kept in an appropriate container and away from possible ignition sources.
“This fire did begin to spread to other sheds in the area but the damage was only superficial and we got the blaze under control very quickly.
“Fortunately the boy’s injuries are not more serious which could have been the case.”
