Back-to-back wins for Vale, but at a cost

Port Vale secured back-to-back away wins but had two players sent off as they triumphed 3-2 at Forest Green.

Manager John Askey made two changes going into the game.

Tom Pope and Rhys Browne came into the side for Richie Bennett and James Gibbons.

The Vale went in front on 14 minutes through Shaun Brisley with his first goal for the club.

They doubled their lead on 38 minutes through Tom Pope.

The striker appeared to have made the game safe with his second, and Vale's third 20 minutes from time.

He netted from the penalty spot after Mitchell Clark had been upended in the area.

The visitors pulled one back on 78 minutes with a penalty of their own.

Luke Joyce was penalised for a foul and Carl Winchester made no mistake with his spot kick.

The Vale were then reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute, after Mitchell Clark was given a straight red for a late foul on Liam Kitching.

The home side then pulled another goal back in the 95th minute with Winchester netting his second.

Tom Pope was then sent off in the 97th minute for a second bookable offence, but the Vale hung on for another three points.

They remain 9th in the table and only out of the play-off places on goal difference.

The Vale are back in action on Saturday when they entertain fifth place Colchester, who are just a point ahead of the Valiants.
