Striker leaves Stoke City

Mame Diouf has left Stoke City after six years at the club.

The Senegalese international striker had signed an extension to his contract until the end of the season but the club have agreed to his request to be released from that agreement early.

The 32-year-old scored 26 goals in 157 first team appearances – his most memorable being his match winner against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in August 2014 when he ran almost the length of the pitch before firing past Joe Hart.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “Mame has been a hugely popular member of our first team squad over the last six years and leaves with our very best wishes.

“The role he played in us securing three successive ninth placed finishes in the Premier League should not be overlooked as he scored some key goals for us.

“He will always be welcome at the bet365 Stadium and we wish him every success in the next phase of his career.”

The club would also like to wish former Republic of Ireland international Stephen Ward good luck for the future after he left the bet365 Stadium following his one-season spell with the Potters.
