Port Vale were beaten 2-0 at play-off chasing Exeter City.
Manager John Askey made one change to the side which beat Crewe the week before with Luke Hannant coming in for the injured Manny Oyeleke.
The Vale fell behind early on, when Kyle Howkins was penalised for a foul in the area and Nicky Law tucked away the resulting penalty.
Hiram Boaeteng then doubled the home side's lead ten minutes after the restart with a contender for goal of the season with a stunning volley from just inside the area.
Speaking to the club's official website after the game boss John Askey said: "It was a poor game today and it brought us back down to earth. Sometimes you learn more from a defeat than you do from winning, today there is a lot too learn from.
"We just weren't right at it straight from the off and we just didn't win enough second ball."
The defeat leaves the Vale in 18th place in the table, ten points above the relegation zone with four games left.
The Valiants are back in action on Friday when they entertain Stevenage, before making the trip to MK Dons on Easter Monday.
