Vale boss on home defeat

Port Vale's four match unbeaten run came to an end as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Forest Green.

Manager John Askey made just the one change going into the game with Cristian Montano replacing Luke Hannant who missed training in the week due to tonsillitis.

The Valiants had the better of the chances in the first half with Tom Conlon, Montano and Ricky Miller all going close to breaking the deadlock.

But it was the first who struck first, when Reece Brown sweetly struck shot gave goalkeeper Scott Brown no chance on 69 minutes.

Brown then sealed victory for the visitors with a second with the last kick of the game in the third minute of stoppage time.

As the Vale poured men forward in a desperate search for an equaliser, they were caught out on the counter attack by Brown, who raced clear from inside his own half before lifting the ball over Brown into the back of the net.

The result leaves the Vale in 21st place in League Two, seven points above the relegation zone with seven games to play.

John Askey's side are back in action on Saturday when they make the trip to Northampton.
